If you want to direct a domain name that you have to a different domain name or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is pointed to. This way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site that you have created, but it'll also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all of the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that such a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which we offer with each and every Linux shared hosting package, will enable you to set up CNAME records for every domain name or subdomain hosted in the account with several mouse clicks. If you are not absolutely sure how to go about it, you can check the video tutorial that is available within the CP, read the comprehensive Help article on the subject, or just simply contact us and we can assist you 24/7, even though it is not likely that you'll experience any issues as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to choose a domain/subdomain, type in the hostname you are forwarding to, and save the modification. The new record will be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control over your domain names and site content and our system is simple and intuitive enough to allow people with no previous experience to create this sort of records effortlessly.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a hard task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each Linux semi-dedicated hosting package we provide, is extremely simple to use. If you wish to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all you will need to do will be to pick the domain or subdomain you need, choose the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type in the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is very easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record is going to be completely active and within a couple of hours it will propagate around the globe. If you are not sure what you need to do, we have prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located in that same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for help at any time.
